The Indian Claims Commission Collection consists of multiple copies of the claims histories researched and written by the project staff. Each of these histories is accompanied by volumes of the defendants' exhibits consisting of copies of specific historical documents and secondary sources, which are footnoted in the reports. The reports are arranged in order of Royce Area number (see 18th Annual Report of the Bureau of American Ethnology, 1899) and are stored in Hollinger boxes. This collection also contains copies of the Department of Justice internal publication concerning the status of cases before the Indian Claims Commission, entitled Fact and Opinion (Vol 1-21 and indices), and an assorted collection of the Indian Claims Commission decision announcements.
