The General Collections of the Ohio Valley-Great Lakes Ethnohistory Archives contain miscellaneous historical materials. They are divided into four sub-collections (1) transcribed documents, (2) reproduced documents, (3) general correspondence, and (4) miscellaneous.
The transcribed document file includes documents transcribed from the microfilm collection. They are arranged by the collections from which they originated and indexed separately. Researchers are encouraged to consult this file before resorting to microfilm, because many of the relevant documents have been transcribed.
The reproduced document file contains many documents and manuscripts, which have been verifacted, photocopied, and xeroxed. The file is organized chronologically with a miscellaneous section of materials, either oversized or uncategorized. Many key documents used as exhibits can be found in this file.
The general correspondence file contains the correspondence between the Department of Justice, Division of Lands, and the project concerning the progress of cases, strategies for report structure, and specific contracts between the project and the Department of Justice. This sub collection is located in the Indiana University Archives (Bryan Hall 201) and copies are in the Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology. The files contain the correspondence with historians and anthropologists who were consulted for their opinions or interpretations on particular historic or cultural issues, or who served as sub-contracted authors and ethnohistorians. The historiographic discussions in many instances contribute added dimension or context to specific topics addressed in the reports contained in the Indiana Claims Commission Collection.
The miscellaneous file includes such items as surplus exhibit documents, secondary source material copied from journals and magazines, and a number of pamphlets and documents concerning Moravian - Indian relations. Other miscellaneous items are stored in Hollinger boxes as follows:
