Conclusions on Piankashaw Locations (ca. 1763 - ca. 1776)
/pg. 89/
During the period of English sovereignty in the west Piankashaws continued to occupy the same two centers along the Wabash River that they had during the French period--the Vermilion River area and the vicinity of Vincennes. They also continued to visit the Illinois area for various reasons. They hunted along both sides of the Wabash River, ranging, to an indefinite extent, into the eastern half of the state of m inois (in areas depicted by Royce: 26, 48, 63, 73, 74, 98, and 110) and the southwestern and central area of the state of Indiana (in areas depicted by Royce: 25, 26, 49, 56, 71, 98, 99, and 110). Piankashaw population estimates continue to be unreliable. The Vermilion River village appears to remain larger than the village at Vincennes.
