An Anthropological Report on the Piankashaw Indians, Dockett 99 (a part of Consolidated Docket No. 315; Dr. Dorothy Libby)

Conclusions on Piankashaw Locations (ca. 1796 -ca. 1805)(pg. 212)

/pg. 212/

Little locational information exists for this time period for the Piankashaws. From general statements by Harrison and Dearborn and treaty negotiations it seems apparent that at least a few Piankashaws still lived in the Vincennes area, especially to the west of the Wabash River, but that a few Piankashaws might range as far as St. Louis and Louisville to hunt or trade. It is possible that some Piankashaws also were living near the Mississippi River during this time period.

There is no census information for Piankashaws near the Wabash River, and only a figure of about 80 persons for a group of Indians near St. Louis which might have been Piankashaws.
