As to the expence of Provisions upon Indians I regret it extreamly, but freely acknowledge it above my ability to keep fair w them and be more saving. The Enemies running beyond the Lakes renders their Services contemptible at least for some months, were they to be active in our Legonier, I believe it will be better to discourage than desire their assistance. You may depend upon it that no alurements shall be used to detain any here. The Shawnese & Twightwees sett off tomorrow, as likewise a number of Delawares, who are starving when at home, thro' the loss of their Corn fields last fall, and come with Shoals of useless fry to prey upon us; such as we must still be burthend with shall be reduced to the proper allowance; there will be a necessity at last of bringing them to half allowance if they dont take the hints given upon this Subject, and many of them appear very insensible this way.
