Pickawillany, on Great Miami River, below mouth of Loramie's Creek, about 2 mi. N of present city of Piqua, Miami Co., Ohio.
First Piqua town in Ohio. Orig. not inhab. by many of Sh. of lower Sh. Town. Was built at their sugg. and with their and Penna. traders' help, for their friends and allies, the Miamis who about 1747, deserted French interest, abandoned their former town on site of Ft. Wayne, Ind., seeking the protection of the Shawnees and English. Pickawillany is called "Tawicioti Town, or Picque Town" on Evan's map of 1755. The name sometimes sp. Picqualline, Pickwaylinee. Town first destroyed by French & Inds., 1752.
