Description Black and White Photographic Print affixed to 5"X8" card stock
Subdivision V-9-B
Photograph taken July 31, 1958
Clay effigy pipe in situ on the 1.85 foot level in Block 8-L-4.

The dissecting needle points north.
This pipe is the likeness of a man in a kneeling posture. The arms are at the sides and placed in such a way as to imply that they were bound so. Incised lines on the arms and across the back suggest ropes. This pipe, then, might rightly be called the likeness of a "captive".

It does not show in the photograph, of course, but there is a perforation through the neck which once connected the head of the effigy with the bowl of the pipe so that smoke could be blown out the mouth of the effigy.
