Black and White Photographic Print affixed to 5"X8" card stock Mound F The sixty one men shown in this photograph had just completed hand trowelling the entire primary mound surface so that it could be photographed from all directions and from the air. The picture was taken late in November 1941 and marked, approximately, the end of digging activity in the mound. December 7th was no great surprise and in November we anticipated the forthcoming end of relief labor projects. With exposure of the entire primary mound surface we had reached a place where we could, if necessary, leave the mound for some future time without damage to any feature. The primary mound was photographed from every direction and from above; the surface was contour surveyed, all features were drawn to scale, and finally, a heavy cover of straw was placed over the entire surface to prevent undue errosion and to hasten growth of protective plant life. These precautions were timely for soon after December 7th, 1941, all work in
the field had to be brought to a close.
