From our Collections
The Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology, located on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, exists as a research and curation facility for materials pertaining to the prehistoric and early historic periods in the Midwestern United States. These resources include archaeologically excavated artifacts, donated artifacts, excavation records and samples, photographs, site reports, and published and unpublished library and archival materials. Over 14,000 years of Indiana's history is represented by our collections -- from the scant archaeological remains of the Paleoindian culture through to the documents of the early explorers and settlers of the Indiana territory.
The Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology curates over 10,000 collections, the contents of which total millions of individual artifacts and records. Highlighted here is a small sampling of our extensive photographic collection that documents the work undertaken by decades of dedicated faculty, staff, students, and volunteers to investigate the prehistoric cultures of Indiana.
